About Mitchell

Based on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I'm a commercial pilot and CFII with a wide range of experience. I've given instruction in over 30 different aircraft — from vintage tailwheels and fabric-covered homebuilts to modern Cirrus SR22s with full glass and CAPS.

My approach is simple: figure out what you actually need and work on that. No cookie-cutter lesson plans, no burning hours on stuff you've already got dialed in. Whether you're a low-time pilot adding a tailwheel endorsement or a high-time pilot transitioning to a new type, we'll get you there efficiently.

When I'm not in the right seat, I'm likely under the cowling. I'm Rotax certified, which means I bring a level of mechanical awareness to my instruction that most CFIs can't — I actually know what's going on with the engine you're flying behind.

Common Questions

If yours isn't here, just reach out.

Where are you based, and do you travel for training?
I'm based at 5R2 — Ocean Springs Airport on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I can travel depending on the aircraft and situation. Reach out and we'll figure out the logistics.
How long does a tailwheel endorsement take?
Most pilots knock it out in 5–10 hours depending on their background. There's no set hour requirement — the endorsement gets signed off when you're ready, not when a clock runs out.
Do you provide the aircraft for training?
It depends on the type and what you're training for. Contact me and we'll work out what makes sense for your situation.
What aircraft types can you instruct in?
I've flown and instructed in 30+ types — tailwheels, the Vans RV series, Cirrus SR22, light sport, high-performance, and complex. If you're transitioning into something specific, reach out and we'll talk through it.
Do you offer instrument training?
Yes. I hold a CFII rating and can provide instrument instruction, IPCs, and cross-country IFR training.
How do ferry flights work?
Send me the aircraft type, origin, and destination and we'll go from there. I'm rated SEL, MEL, and SES with experience across a wide range of aircraft.
